How it works

Three data layers, one transparent answer.

ProcedureScout combines public datasets and modern geocoding to surface a single, comparable price for each hospital — for cash payers and insured patients alike.

Hospital price files

Under federal price transparency rules, hospitals must publish a machine-readable file of standard charges. We ingest these (or their published patient estimator pages) into our prices table.

CMS Care Compare ratings

Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating from CMS — a composite of 52 quality measures across mortality, safety, readmission, patient experience, and timely & effective care.

OpenStreetMap geocoding

Your ZIP or city is geocoded via Nominatim, then we compute haversine distance to each hospital so you can sort by miles.

Comparable & honest

We always show the payer type (Cash vs Insurance) and flag sample data. Real prices replace sample data as hospitals are onboarded.

Current coverage

We're live with 10 Nevada hospitals across Reno, Las Vegas, and Henderson. The schema, admin import, and CMS rating refresh endpoint are nationwide-ready — we're intentionally rolling out state by state to keep data accurate.

Disclaimer: prices shown are estimates based on publicly disclosed standard charges and may differ from your final bill. Always confirm with the hospital's patient financial services before scheduling.

ProcedureScout

An independent, data-forward way to compare hospital prices, CMS ratings, and distance — starting in Nevada and expanding nationwide.
